Ruby Hart (Medicine 2023) is excited to be representing Cambridge in this week’s 134th Lawn Tennis Varsity Match, having made it a target when she received her offer for 鶹Ů.

Ruby combines working towards her medical degree with representing Cambridge University at tennis. Although dissection practical sessions interrupted her competition plans in her first year at Caius, Ruby was part of the team which won the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Trophy Final in the Easter vacation.

“Once I got my offer I knew I wanted to be in the Blues team. That was something I was really hoping for,” says Ruby, who is one of an unusually high five freshers in Cambridge’s seven-strong women’s squad.

Now is the Varsity Match which will see Ruby as Cambridge’s number one singles player, facing Oxford’s top-two players in successive days. She will also take part in three doubles contests on the grass courts at Fenner’s.

Ruby has always enjoyed the individual nature of tennis; she is now thriving in the team environment.

“I really love here being part of a team. Playing doubles and playing with other people is really nice,” she adds.

Ruby is an attack-minded, left-handed player who has enjoyed the balance provided by high-level tennis and a demanding degree.

She adds: “I find the tennis really helps. You have to be good at time management and be organised, but it gives you time to clear your head and get away from work, gets you exercise.”

The 134th Blues Lawn Tennis Varsity Match will take place on Saturday 22 June and Sunday 23 June, starting at 11am on both days in Cambridge (Fenner’s Grounds, next to Hughes Hall). Enjoy a day filled with competitive tennis, great company, and fantastic food and drink options from our food truck and bar. For more details and to register your attendance, visit the .
